2016 Apple created a framework for building medical condition management apps

Apple CareKit - is a new open-source framework enabling developers to build apps that help patients manage their medical conditions and connect to care providers. Rather than relying solely on doctor visits, you’ll be able to regularly track your symptoms and medications, and even share the information with your care team for a bigger - and better - picture of your health. CareKit is launching with an app designed specifically for individuals with Parkinson's to see how they are responding and reacting to treatments. Apple is also partnering with organizations like University of Rochester Medical Center and Penn Medicine to develop apps designed to help users. CareKit complements HealthKit framework for building fitness apps and ResearchKit - for building research apps.

2014 Apple added Health App and HealthKit in iOS 8

Apple announced a new Health app and a service called HealthKit for iOS 8. While developers use HealthKit, consumers will see the Health app. The Health app will be able to pull in data from other third-party apps such as Nike to keep all your health-related information in one hub. The fitness monitoring app will likely go head-to-head with wristband trackers like the Fitbit and Jawbone. Apple also named the Mayo Clinic as a partner, allowing users to log information like blood pressure within the app. HealthKit would then alert the MayoClinic app about whether or not the results are in the normal range and even contact medical professionals.
